Stage 2: Stirling to Brodick

Stage 2: We skirt the craggy Gargunnock hills out from Stirling, with wide open views north. The hillside tracks either side of Balloch open up the views north up Loch Lomond. Into Glen Fruin there starts to be a remote  feel, as we begin a long stretch of high quality gravel around the Firth of Clyde sea lochs and over the Arrochar Alps. Crossing the Cowal peninsula on more good gravel, the views west open up. Triple ferry crossings take in Gigha, the Mull of Kintyre and Arran to finish.

  1. Ride stats: 374km  & 5426 m
  2. Off-road: 44% off-road, mostly good quality forestry tracks.
  3. Ferries: Portavadie to Tarbert, Tayinloan to Ghia, Claonaig to Lochranza & Brodick to Ardrossan, on Caledonian MacBrayne.
  4. Trains start & end: Scotrail at Stirling and Ardrossan & on route @ Balloch, Helensburgh, Arrochar.

Society members are joining forces to ride as many ‘grand tours’ of 3,400km as possible, before the Tour de France rolls out of Edinburgh in July 2027.  Join other society members on the ToS Challenge to raise money for our charity partners, to get more people on bikes.
