Kingdom Taster

Fancy a jolly around the Kingdom of Fife? We're planning a two day group ride next June.

This will be a rolling route so slightly less off road and less climbing than our standard rugged routes.  If you’ve never been bikepacking before this would be a good route to start with.

Day one stats: 67 Km 763m 55% paved 45% unpaved
Day two stats: 92 Km 1000m 66% paved 34% unpaved

Summary: Roam Scotland’s first foray into the Kingdom of Fife. A weekend of culinary and historical delights as well as a wee bit cycling, camaraderie and straight out fun with bikes. Routed to include not 1 but 2 stops at the legendary Fisher and Donaldson bakery in Cupar. Other cafes available but why would you?

Dates: 19th & 20th of June.

Day 1 takes you from Leven with a train station and overnight camper parking available, to Falkland, village of Outlander fame. Some of the offroad route takes in the Fife Pilgrims Way ancient route of pilgrimage to St Andrews. The overnight stay will be at Pillars of Hercules camp site or if you prefer it a number of room options are available in the village. Be warned the Pillars camp site books up quickly.
Home to Falkland Palace and gardens.

Day 2 sees us return to Leven via some of the Fife Coastal Path and another visit to Fisher and Donaldson if you had a fudge doughnut yesterday perhaps you will opt for a coffee tower today. We will pass through St Andrews with numerous eating places and of course St Andrews cathedral, the Swilken bridge and the famous beach from Chariots of Fire.  The Caledonian hotel in Leven High St would be a great choice for a post ride beer and some food.

Route Options: As well as the rolling route an extra loop is available taking you into the Lomond Hills featuring John Knox’s pulpit, Glen Vale and Pictish forts.

Access to the route:

Trains: direct from Edinburgh to Leven

Ember Buses: They take bikes – details to be confirmed.

How to join the ride: Become a Roam Scotland member if not already and head to the ‘events’ section of our RWGPS site.  Entries aren’t open yet, we’ll announce them on the WhatsApp announcements chat when they are.
